Two-time road racing bronze medalist Charles Moreau, and Para cycling newbie Nathan Clement lead a five-person team onto the byways of Paris this week.
Moreau (H3) is from Victoriaville, Que. is a two-time bronze medallist in time trial and road race at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. He begins his events Wednesday for the mens H3 Individual Time Trial at 9:28 a.m. and on Thursday for the men’s H3 Road Race at 10:05 a.m. Eastern.
Clement (T1) is from West Vancouver, B.C. and is making his Para cycling debut this year. He competed in Rio in the Para swimming events, where he broke the Canadian record for the 50-metre butterfly.
He is also a bike medalist at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, 2023 Parapan American Games and 2022 Para Cycling World Championships.
Nathan’s first race is Wednesday in the men’s T1-2 Individual Time Trial at 4:19 a.m. and he cycles again on Saturday in the men’s T1-2 Road Race at 6:45 am.
Fans can also expect to see Alexandre Hayward, Mel Pemble, Kate O’Brien, and Keely Shaw in the time trials and road race.
Hayward won bronze on Friday in the men’s C3 3000m Individual Pursuit. He is set to appear tomorrow for the men’s C3 Individual Time Trial at 8:25 a.m. and on Saturday for the men’s C1-3 Road Race at 3:30 a.m.
Pemble made her summer Paralympic debut in Para cycling on Saturday, where she broke a world record but just missed the podium. She is set to race again Wednesday in the women’s C1-3 Individual Time Trial at 3:02 a.m.
O’Brien won Canada’s first medal, last Thursday, with a bronze. She is set to race Wednesday at 2:14 am for the women’s C4 Individual Time Trial.
Shaw took home another bronze medal on Friday after competing in Tokyo 2021 in the same event. She is set to make an appearance alongside Kate on Wednesday for the women’s C4 time trial and on Friday for the women’s C4-5 Road Race at 3:35 am.
After four days of Para cycling track, Canada has three bronze medals.
On Sunday, Para cycling athlete Michael Sametz announced his withdrawal from the Games after he was injured in a crash while training on the road last Wednesday.
He also missed Tokyo 2020 due to injury and illness.
