Carmichael to spend time with family after election loss

Defeated MP John Carmichael stood with his family when he thanked supporters for backing his unsuccessful campaign to hang on to the Don Valley West riding for the Conservative Party. While he said “it’s too early to tell” what he will do next, or whether he will seek election again, he was sure about one thing.

Liberal Shaun Chen is the new face representing the new riding of Scarborough North. Shaun collected 48 per cent of votes cast to win the race for MP, finishing ahead of Conservative Ravinder Malhi with 27 per cent.

Blame for NDP loss not local, former MP says

Scarborough Southwest has gone back to its Liberal ways.

In 2011, the NDP’s Dan Harris was able to edge the Liberals to become Scarborough Southwest’s member of parliament. This time around he didn’t have the same luck, but he doesn’t feel that reflects his work.

Winner in Eglinton-Lawrence commits to resolving transit headaches

The Liberal victor in Monday night’s federal election vote in the Eglinton-Lawrence riding reaffirmed his commitment to public transit in the constituency. In a tight race with the Conservative Joe Oliver, on Oct.19, Marco Mendicino came out the winner, accumulating nearly 50 per cent of the riding’s votes, according to the CBC’s Canada Votes website. Oliver garnered just over 41 per cent, while the NDP candidate Andrew Thomson attracted just over six per cent.

Reconfigured northern GTA riding makes victory tougher, winner says

The winning Liberal candidate in Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill, says the newly configured riding made the race even tougher. While Leona Alleslev won the riding, it was by a margin of just over two per cent. She won 47.3 per cent of the vote, while her Conservative opponent, Costas Menegakis, garnered 45.2 per cent. NDP candidate, Brenda Power attracted 5.7 per cent, according to CBC’s Canada Votes website.
