Everest College hosts its first Addiction Awareness Week

Addiction issues are on the rise, says Tom Peric, lead instructor in the addictions and community services worker program at Everest College. “I think a program like this one is important because it can help people,” said Peric. The college recently held its first Addiction Awareness Week at its campus at 2425 Eglinton Ave. E. in Scarborough.

Proposed smoking ban receives mixed reaction

One of Toronto’s top doctors has taken his plan to ban smoking in public places public. His proposition urges city council and the province to ban smoking from many outdoor spaces that includes restaurant and bar patios, beaches, sports fields and entrances to public building.




Bed bugs found at two Scarborough libraries

They’re small and really tough to see. But they’re a big problem. “One is too many,” said Patricia Eastman of the Toronto Public Library (TPL). Bed bugs were reported at the Cedarbrae and Kennedy-Eglinton libraries in the last month. According to Eastman, area manager for both locations, the TPL system takes all reported incidents seriously.

Baby boot camp keeps moms in fighting trim

“It is similar to the rest of our classes because we don’t take it easy on (the mothers) just because they’ve given birth,” said Victoria Wickett. “They can stand a workout and most of them are pretty tough. It’s a lot more strength building. We don’t do so much cardio in that class though, because the mothers do have the kids with them.”
