The riding of Davenport has been reclaimed by the Liberals after one term of NDP leadership, as Julie Dzerowicz defeated incumbent Andrew Cash by a narrow margin. With 155 of 192 polls reporting, Dzerowicz was victorious, taking 45.1 per cent of the votes, ahead of Cash at 40.2 per cent – a difference of about 1,800 votes.
The MPP for Parkdale-High Park has called for the immediate shutdown of GE’s uranium pellet plant in Toronto’s west-end. In recent weeks, residents located around the General Electric plant on Landsdowne Avenue, have learned that the facility also houses a uranium pellet manufacturing plant under the name GE Hitachi. On Nov. 15, the community held a public meeting to learn about the facility and voice opinions.
Losing the municipal vote in 2010 didn’t stop NDP candidate Jonah Schein from running in this year’s provincial election. On Thursday night, Schein’s perseverance finally paid off; after 14 years of Liberal rule, Davenport shifted from red to orange.
