The winning candidate in Monday night’s federal election in Newmarket-Aurora credits a positive campaign for the victory. After 78 days, the longest campaign in modern Canadian history, the residents of Newmarket-Aurora chose Liberal candidate Kyle Peterson, who earned more than 45 per cent of votes, according to the CBC Canada Votes website.

Work for youth is new MP’s priority

The winner in Monday night’s federal election in the riding of Scarborough Centre has pledged financial support of jobs for young people as a priority. In the Oct. 19 vote, Liberal candidate Salma Zahid defeated Conservative incumbent Roxanne James. Zahid polled 51.1 per cent of ballots cast, according to the CBC Canada Votes website. James finished in second place with just over 30 per cent of votes, while NDP Alex Wilson earned 11.8 per cent of ballots.

In third place, NDP candidate offers to assist Liberal winner

Uxbridge offered her assistance to the elected Liberal. The newly configured riding, northeast of Toronto, saw Liberal Jennifer O’Connell defeat encumbent Conservative Corneliu Chisu, by more than 4,700 votes, with 49 per cent of total balloting. NDP candidate Pamela Downward came in third with nearly 10 per cent of ballots, according to the CBC Canada Votes website.

Scarborough-Guildwood Tory says loss is end of the line

The Conservative candidate in Scarborough-Guildwood bid farewell to supporters, Monday night, on this his final attempt to upset the Liberal stronghold in the riding. Chuck Konkel conceded to Liberal incumbent John McKay at an election night reception at the JC Banquet Hall in Scarborough. Konkel, who earned 26.5 per cent of the vote to McKay’s 60 per cent, thanked supporters for their commitment during one of the longest campaigns in Canada’s history.

John McKay celebrated his seventh re-election with a victory party at his campaign office on Monday night.
