Hockey has a new product that hopes will make social changes within the game. Pride Tape, a rainbow-coloured stick tape, was created to promote the inclusion of LGBTQ athletes in sports.

Although a lockout may benefit the quality of play in Canadian major junior hockey in the short-term due to the influx of more mature, NHL-ready talent, a work stoppage in the “show” is not welcome in the eyes of many CHL executives.

2011-12 NHL Preview: Northwest Division

After a disappointing Game 7 loss to the Boston Bruins in last year’s cup final, the organization went in to the off-season with the ‘if it ain’t broke, why fix it’ mentality. They lost Ehrhoff to the Buffalo Sabres via free agency, but look to youngster Chris Tanev to step in on the blue line. Vancouver will need to overcome injuries to forwards Ryan Kesler (hip), Mason Raymond (back) and Mikael Samuelsson (abdominals) to start the season, but with their depth they should be able to cope.

NHL preview: Northwest Division

The Vancouver Canucks won the Northwest Division last season, and remain the favourites to repeat this season. The balance of power in the division is not likely to change, with only Calgary making significant changes.
