Members of the Greek community took the streets of Greektown on Sunday to take part in the annual Greek Independence Day parade. There was music, food, dancing, traditional clothes and more.

Greektown resident John Galaktopolous came out to celebrate his heritage on March 29. “It’s freedom day,” he said. “That’s what it’s all about. We are a strong nation.” More than 15,000 people lined the Danforth, between Jones and Chester avenues, to watch the Greek Independence Day parade on Sunday.
It’s been a new era since Monday for some residents in Toronto’s Greektown, who are anticipating a better future for their families back in Greece.
