The incumbent in Scarborough-Guildwood believes that his victory and the majority win for the Liberals in Monday’s federal election are proof that positive campaigning wins over negative. Liberal MP John McKay held his victory party at his campaign office on Kingston Road, Monday night, when he celebrated his seventh consecutive re-election, and fifth consecutive in the Scarborough-Guildwood riding.

Scarborough-Guildwood Tory says loss is end of the line
The Conservative candidate in Scarborough-Guildwood bid farewell to supporters, Monday night, on this his final attempt to upset the Liberal stronghold in the riding. Chuck Konkel conceded to Liberal incumbent John McKay at an election night reception at the JC Banquet Hall in Scarborough. Konkel, who earned 26.5 per cent of the vote to McKay’s 60 per cent, thanked supporters for their commitment during one of the longest campaigns in Canada’s history.

Liberal victor says new PM did not stoop to attack campaign
Celebrating victory in the Oct. 19 federal election, the Scarborough-Guildwood Liberal candidate suggested his leader could have been much nastier in his attack against the incumbent Tories. John McKay celebrated his seventh re-election with a victory party at his campaign office on Monday night. About 50 members of the community came to show their support as the results were being tallied.

Conservative candidate bows to Liberal victory in GTA
In his loss to the incumbent in Scarborough-Guildwood, Monday night, the Conservative challenger acknowledged what had been a national trend. Conservative Chuck Konkel won nearly 27 per cent of votes in the federal election, according to the CBC’s Canada Votes website, but could not overcome Liberal John McKay’s commanding 60 per cent of the balloting.
