TTC chair Karen Stintz extended an olive branch to Mayor Rob Ford in Toronto’s transit battle at city hall earlier today. Ahead of today’s special meeting, Stintz and 23 other councillors had lined up to counter the mayor’s underground transit plans in favour of building more light rail above ground with the money already set aside.
Faster transportation. Reliable service. Comfortable commute. These are some of the things the Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown will provide to transit users.

It took a couple of months but Mayor Rob Ford finally unveiled his transit vision, one that replaces the Transit City plan, finding “common ground” with Premier Dalton McGuinty.
Scarborough may have to wait longer for a faster transit system now that Mayor Ford has teamed up with Metrolinx to provide funding for the subway he wants built in Toronto.
While Toronto’s mayoral hopefuls are busy debating LRT or subway, one proposed Scarborough line is conspicuously missing from the discussion.
Denis Lanoue has no time for Toronto’s expansion of light rail transit. “It (is) basically a streetcar that would stop at every bus stop and wouldn’t go that fast at all,” Lanoue said.
Scarborough has an opportunity to become more than Toronto’s Bronx, known for crime and gangs.
With the Pan Am Games, a new Toronto mayor and green energy projects like wind turbines, by 2015 it could be a very different Scarborough from today.
