Travelling 9,000 kilometres from Winnipeg, Man. to Tokyo, Japan to play in one’s first para-badminton tournament in 18 months might seem like a daunting prospect to some.
The final day of the Vancouver 2010 winter Olympic Games was one of great triumph for the Canadian obsession, a closing ceremony with its tongue planted firmly in cheek, and a cross-country ski event that lasted just over two hours.
On Thursday afternoon the ladies 4x5-kilometre relay took place at Whistler Olympic Park, where team Norway won the gold medal and Marit Bjoergen of Norway collected her third gold medal at the 2010 Winter Games.
Team Canada and skip Kevin Martin improved to 7-0, and clinched the top spot in the playoffs, defeating Markus Eggler of Switzerland 6-4 in Draw 9 play on Sunday.
