A cold mix of rain and snow couldn’t keep Scarborough and Pickering residents away from a fun festival. Winterfest, now in its 16th year, was held Saturday at the Port Union Community Recreation Centre.
Scarborough now has full representation in the McGuinty cabinet. Earlier this month, MPPs Margarett Best of Scarborough-Guildwood and Scarborough Centre’s Brad Duguid were appointed Minister of Consumer Services and Minister of Economic Development and Innovation, respectively. Scarborough’s remaining four MPPs have been given roles of parliamentary assistants.
Voters painted Scarborough red again on Oct. 6, with all six ridings remaining in Liberal hands. Scarborough-Guildwood was expected to be a tight race between MPP Maragrett Best and PC candidate Gary Elis, a former police superintendent in 42 and 43 Divisions. The results, though, told a different story.
He may not have won but defeated Pickering-Scarborough East PC candidate Kevin Gaudet says Ontario’s voters have sent a message. “Change may not have come to Scarborough East tonight but it’s coming to Ontario,” he said.
She beat cancer twice but tonight she’s celebrating another victory. Liberal candidate Tracy MacCharles was elected in Scarborough-Pickering East in the Oct. 6 provincial election.
