A 19 year-old construction worker was pronounced dead on Tuesday, following the collapse of a Northern Toronto home. Police say the home was being renovated prior to the collapse, and two other victims were severely injured.
According to Division Commander Bob O’Hallarn, four people were in the house when it collapsed. “One of them was able to escape, “out of the house when [their] crew got there,” he said.
O’Hallarn said police have identified the deceased, and were able to contact his family on Tuesday.
Bruce Skeasf, community manager at the Ontario Ministry of Labour, said the incident is being investigated by his department.
“This will be very much like police investigations,” Skeasf said. “We collect evidence, interview witnesses — and investigations always have the possibility of ending up as charges in court.”
The ministry has a year to decide whether or not to lay charges.
