The Oshawa Generals put on a hockey clinic in Friday night’s 3-0 victory over the Peterborough Petes.

Under the direction of coach Bob Jones, the Generals (3-1-0-0) dominated both ends of the ice, outshooting their opponents 30-14.

Goaltender Jeremy Brodeur was stellar in net, stopping all 14 shots he faced for a second consecutive shutout performance.

Peterborough (2-2-0-0) struggled immensely against the defending Memorial Cup champions, their lack of discipline giving Oshawa a plethora of power play opportunities.

Entering Friday’s division tilt with the Petes, the Generals converted six of their 17 power plays.

Peterborough’s lack of discipline in the first two periods gave the potent Generals eight opportunities with the man advantage.

The league’s best power play finally broke through six minutes into the second. Stephen Desrocher’s shot from the high slot was tipped beautifully by Matt Mistele for his first of the season.

Six minutes later it was Anthony Cirelli who extended Oshawa’s lead with a second power-play goal. Captain Michael Dal Colle and Desrocher getting the assists on the play.

The Generals entered Friday’s contest with two shutouts in the first three games of the season and looked to continue their dominance on the defensive end. The home team would not allow a shot on net until the 17-minute mark of the first frame.

Dominating both ends of the ice is something the Generals have been doing regularly since last season when they lifted the Memorial Cup for the fifth time in franchise history. After 20 minutes of play the Generals outshot the Petes 11-2.

Although they were unable to score in the first period, Oshawa dominated both sides of the puck while setting the tone for how the rest of the game was going to be played.

After two periods the Generals the score was 2-0 for the Generals.

Jeremy Brodeur was once again stellar in net, registering a second consecutive shutout victory.

Peterbrough managed to stay out of the sin bin in the third, but regaining momentum seemed impossible. The visiting team simply could not get enough pucks on net to challenge Brodeur.

With the Generals continuing to pour shots on the Peterborough net, it was the Pete’s net minder Matthew Mancian who managed to keep his team in the game, making 27 saves on the night.

Oshawa would add a third goal in the final minute of regulation, an empty netter from Joe Manchurek.
