DUNEDIN, Fla. – Toronto Blue Jays pitching prospect Angel Perdomo continues to shine after a couple of all star appearances in 2016.
During his successful year with the Lansang Lugnuts, pitching a 3.19 ERA with 156 strikeouts, he was invited to attend the Midwestern All Star Game and a month later, the MLB Futures Games in San Diego.
Despite a tough outing in San Diego (2H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB), Perdomo is happy with the experience he gained.
“Well I was there for the Midwestern All Star Game and it went well for me thank God,” he said last week at the Bobby Mattick Training Center. “In the futures game, it was a bit difficult because the batters have more experience and knew more when a pitch was bad or not.
“It was rough but I learned so much and gained great experience”
Perdomo has more confidence than he did back when he first joined the organization from the Dominican Republic at the age of 17.
“I feel real good thanks to God. I feel great that they gave me the opportunity in 2012, improving until now.”
Perdomo, who grew up admiring Arizona Diamondbacks legend Randy Johnson, now looks to someone else for inspiration.
“I’m looking more at [CC] Sabathia. I’ve been told that we have the same techniques and we’re similar in terms of sizing. Randy Johnson is a bit more athletic.”
Perdomo will begin the season at Class A Lansang Lugnuts but has a higher goal for the 2017 season.
“My goal is to finish in Double A [New Hampshire Fisher Cats]. I don’t know what the decision would be from management but that’s my goal,” he said.
“If they have something better than me, then they can let me know and I’ll be ready.“
