Medals and money help nervous Team Afghan at Invictus Games Toronto

Afghans from all over the province came to congratulate and support their national heroes during a dinner at the Thorncliffe Banquet Hall in the East York Town Centre on Sept. 29. They welcomed the Afghan national team’s seven players, a coach and the team leader.

Sponsors of Syrian refugee family wanted to make a difference

The Toronto couple acknowledged that they had been moved to sponsor a Syrian family with children after the sheer tragedy of three-year-old Aylan Kurdi, who was found dead on the beaches of Turkey. The couple joined an existing private sponsorship group, Kensington Assistance for Refugees (KARE), last year.
