Plan to direct bridge-building funds to playground nixed

A request to redirect funds intended for a Scarborough pedestrian bridge to playground equipment instead was turned down at an April 5 city budget meeting. The proposal was made by Coun. Glenn De Baeremaeker when it was revealed the 2003 plans to build the 25-metre bridge had gone nowhere.

Artist meets contentious bridge plan with controversial protest

At the beginning of April, 48-year-old artist and Scarborough-native Brent Townsend set up a five-metre cross on his Campbellford, Ont., lawn with a noose hanging from it. A sign attached to the cross reads “Political cover up drags on.” Late last week, he added a tarred-and-feathered sign to the display.
