Historic mishap costs Netherlands’ Kramer a chance at gold

Sven Kramer, the three-time reigning world champion and world record holder, was disqualified following a lane violation, in what would have been an Olympic record in the men’s 10,000m race. South Korea’s Lee Seung-Hoon won gold, skating an Olympic best 12:58.55. Seung-Hoon, starting in the inside lane, surprised everyone by winning an event dominated by the Dutch.

Canada’s Bernard defeats Great Britain in extra end

Canadian skip Cheryl Bernard clinched first place in the women’s curling round robin Tuesday, pulling out another dramatic win. Team Canada needed an extra end to defeat Great Britain and skip Eve Muirhead 6-5, despite stealing points in three straight ends following the fifth end break.
