“At Centennial, we have about seven different policies and procedures that cover off a range of things, from sexual harassment to actual sexual assault,” President Ann Buller said. “We’ve been using them for many, many years.”
Davis ended up with 12,697 votes — 9,674 more than closest contender George Papadakis, who had 3,023 votes, or 14 per cent of the total.
During her time as trustee, Dandy has helped create the late-start high school program to accommodate teenage “biorhythms,” as well as three new French immersion sites. She’s also fought school closings and arranged Red Cross babysitting courses for young people in Toronto-Danforth.
In one of the more interesting Toronto school board races this election, many were surprised to see the local New Democratic establishment’s support shift from Dandy to Story in the heavily NDP-influenced ward.
Four years ago, in his first bid for city councillor for Ward 26, incumbent John Parker edged out first-time candidate Burnside by a paper-thin margin of two percentage points. This time around, Burnside emerged convincingly victorious — with 42.7 per cent of the vote in a six-candidate field.
Gershon has been in the limelight in recent weeks after a provincial auditor’s report questioned some trustee expenses. For instance, the audit showed Gershon spent $3,765 on a tour of Israel. Gershon told the Globe and Mail that the trip had “very much to do with her role as trustee.” And judging from the returns tonight, many East Yorkers seemed to take her at her word.
Parker was the only incumbent Toronto city councillor to lose his seat. After two terms on council, he was defeated by Jon Burnside, the challenger who nipped at his heels, just 400 votes behind, in 2010.

The jury sifted through 220 proposed recommendations, and yesterday settled on 74, including: refinements in police training to help officers better understand mental illness and associated behavior; training in verbal de-escalation of confrontations with the mentally ill; and investigation into better defensive equipment for police, like shields and body-worn cameras.
