Youth Olympians bring home bronze from Singapore

Canada continued to make a name for itself this summer, this time at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Singapore. The Games are for athletes aged 14 to 18, and saw over 3,000 athletes competing in the program that is also set for the 2012 London Games.

Music showcase promotes peace in Scarborough

As cars pulled up in front of Zoom Bar and young people began congregating in the parking lot, it was obvious something was going on that night. Scarborough’s talent came together on Sept. 16 to perform at Music Brings Peace to raise money for the East Metro Youth Services violence intervention project.

West Hill Blue Jays fly high

The big league Blue Jay squad isn’t the only ball team in the city racking up the runs this year. The West Hill Blue Jays proved too much for the competition on the weekend, going undefeated over three games on their way to winning the Scarborough Baseball Association Pee Wee House League championship.

Music teacher wants high school students to let loose

Three Toronto high school’s are expanding their concert musical programs into uncharted – and unscripted – territory. Under the guidance of 22-year-old Toronto musician, teacher and entrepreneur Mitch Wong, students at De La Salle College, University of Toronto Schools and St. Clement’s School are learning how to jam.

March break madness

Kids around the area made the most of their March Break last week. One of the most popular destinations was the Toronto Zoo. Jim Parker also performed folk music for kids at the Malvern Public Library.

U of T Scarborough helps Haiti

The University of Toronto Scarborough did their part for Haiti this week by hosting a candle light vigil to raise aid money. Dozens of students and professors participated in the event on Tuesday, holding candles and giving memory and prayer to those most affected by the earthquakes.
