Fraser Institute rankings may be off the mark

Scarborough secondary rankings schools score an average grade of 5.3 out of 10, according to the recently released Fraser Institute School Rankings. Though some schools in the area rated poorly, the Institute said the study isn’t meant to be a comprehensive indication of a school’s success. And some Scarborough principals agree.

In the Fraser Institute School Rankings, released last week, Scarborough secondary schools averaged a score of about 5.5 out of 10. Though some schools in the area were rated poorly, the Institute says that the study isn’t meant to be a comprehensive indication of a school’s success. Some Scarborough principals agree that it doesn’t serve as a representation of how well their school is doing.

Rougeville’s field of dreams

After four years of tireless work, Suzanne Soo Man Pow is finally witnessing the actualization of a project she holds very dear to her heart: the creation of a new elementary school for her daughter to attend. On Feb. 8, the Toronto District School Board will meet to approve the finalized designs for a new elementary school for the children of Rougeville.

Health and wellness course not available to all students

A Scarborough parent fears her address may prevent her son from learning about proper health and wellness practices because only the Toronto District School Board will offer the program this September. In the fall, Rene Gordon Elementary School and Donview Middle School will deliver the Health and Wellness Program. Both schools are located in North York. According to the TDSB, the program shows students how to engage in activities that will lead to healthier, active living.
