A peaceful day in a Vaughan, Ontario plaza turned into a dire situation Wednesday when a man entered an RBC bank branch with a gun and took 13 people hostage.
York Regional Police got the call at around 1 p.m. and arrived at the Royal Bank branch at Dufferin Street and Major Mackenzie Drive West shortly after.
York Regional Police say that one person is dead and one severely injured following an industrial accident involving two workers in the Vaughan area.
The call came in at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Applewood Crescent, according to a spokesperson from the provincial emergency medical helicopter airlifting agency Ornge.
