The Federal Electoral Boundary Commission has proposed changes for the Scarborough-Agincourt riding.
Through an announcement on his website, MP Jim Karygiannis, who represents the riding for the Liberals, said the commission has been touring the province over the past year, making proposed changes to the electoral map.
According to the proposal, the area is to be divided into two ridings along Finch Avenue and west of the CN Tracks. The new ridings will be Scarborough-Agincourt and Scarborough-Wexford.
If the changes go through, Highway 401 will no longer be the boundary for the district, Karygiannis said.
“Agincourt is north Scarborough’s oldest and most well-established community,” Karygiannis said. “Its electoral voice has always been found in a Scarborough riding north of the 401. But the commission’s proposals attempt to align parts of the Agincourt community with other communities where links are tenuous.”
Karygiannis said he will be speaking against thes proposal in April at the Procedure and House Affairs Committee in the House of Commons.
