Emily Bird, manager of annual programs at the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation, said the fundraiser will be a great help.

“We’re very grateful for this fundraiser and the community support of our hospital,” she said.

Bird noted government funding doesn’t necessarily cover all of the hospital’s costs, so donations from individuals and fundraisers support its needs.

Manolakakis wants people to understand there are ways to support the community you live in.

“It’s our local hospital,” he said.

“It should be a part of all of us to give back to the community somehow.”

Some of his previous fundraisers include raising money for cancer research and helping raise money for a gaming console for someone in need.
