High schoolers compete in NASA contest

“It started off as a student initiative,” said team-leader Peter Wen. “I wrote Dr. Marc Garneau a letter and then he actually came down to our school to visit us at the end of March. He loved our work.”

An uncommon scribbler

“Sometimes I get really weird looks on the subway — ‘Why is this person staring at me?’ kind of thing,” Michael Tsouras said. “But I’m always looking at ‘How do I express that line in a pencil or a pen? How do I translate that?’”

Leaf faithful remember the last Cup

Phyllis Allen remembers it as if it were yesterday. “The whole city was abuzz and in celebration,” she said. “I have never seen anything like it. The streets were packed.” In 1967 the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup. The victory brought the entire city to a standstill. Long-time Maple Leaf fan Phyllis Allen joined others along Yonge Street for the victory parade. Toronto has not experienced a celebration of that magnitude in the intervening 46 years.



Young duo learns to live through music

With instruments, their voices and a vision, two young musicians prove that life and music are their greatest teachers. Xylk (pronounced Silk) Lorena, 20, and Angela Abrenica, 20, have two distinct styles of music. They never expected to come together and create a duo—Plaitwrights (pronounced playwrights).
