The brain, the brain, the centre of the chain

When we hear the term “stay healthy,” a lot comes to mind. We often think about how much exercise we get – or don’t, or feel regret about splurging on that second serving of dessert at dinner.

Sadly, too often we forget about the most important organ of the body – the brain. With mental illness on the rise, it can be very challenging to seek treatment for a loved one when it comes to the sensitive topic of mental health.

Fishing for inspiration

Nestled on Kingston Road not far from the shores of Lake Ontario stands The Bluffs Gallery. Inside, protected from the elements behind its bright, easy-to-spot door painted to look like a butterfly, local artist Charles Weiss’ newest addition to the gallery catches the eye of many. It is an oil painting named “Northern pike chasing a perch”.

Trudeau campaigns in Scarborough for youth vote

If young people want a voice, they should join political parties and vote, star Liberal candidate Justin Trudeau said Monday while campaigning in Scarborough-Rouge River. Trudeau, son of former prime minister Pierre Trudeau, was at the Chinese Cultural Centre for a rally hosted by first-time candidate Rana Sarkar.

Shania Twin does impress them much

The band went on at about 10 p.m., starting the show with an unmistakable seven-note riff. Shania Twin — looking like the real Shania Twain from top to bottom — took the stage singing “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” Twin, otherwise known as Donna Huber, brought her Twain tribute act to Smilin’ Jack’s Bar and Grill at 3482 Lawrence Ave. E. Saturday night.

UTSC musicians welcome spring with jazz thunder

To many, April brings thoughts of warmer and sunnier days. But for some music-loving University of Toronto Scarborough students, their minds were on the sounds of sweet thunder. Sweet melodies and iconic jazz could be heard at UTSC’s Leigha Lee Browne Theatre on the weekend. The UTSC Jazz Orchestra and Vocomotive, an accapella group, showcased their talents at the annual year-end concert, Spring Awakening I.
