OSHAWA, Ont. – Ontario Tech Ridgebacks remain scoreless through three games after a 1-0 defeat to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, on Thursday afternoon, at Vaso’s Field.

The loss marks the third straight for the women’s soccer Ridgebacks (3-4-0), who dropped their previous two matches to the best Eastern Conference sides: the Queen’s Golden Gaels, and Nipissing Lakers.

These losses follow a three-game win streak by the Ontario University Athletics side earlier this season.

Defenders Sierra Tohana-Belisle and Abbie Russell recorded the only two shots on goal, while midfielder Nikita Mohan and forward Aliya Sweeney also registered off-target attempts.

Goaltender Alicia Chisholm made two saves for the Ridgebacks, while Maria Godoy-Atrash made two saves to mark the Varsity Blues victorious.

The game was relatively even throughout the first half, with each team recording one shot on goal at the 45-minute mark.

That lone goal of the game was scored by Varsity Blues (2-3-2) forward Anne Yeomans in the 52nd minute. She also recorded two shots on net, while midfielder Georgia Goldsworthy recoded one.

The goal marks her second of the season.

This season’s three-game losing streak is not the only battle daunting the Ridgebacks – the team remains winless in its last four matchups against the Varsity Blues, which dates back to 2019.

Ontario Tech occupies fifth in the Eastern Conference standings, with the University of Toronto in sixth place.

If the Ridgebacks need any proof there is light at the end of a three game losing streak, they should look no further than the Varsity Blues. The team began the season with three consecutive losses, through which they were outscored 6-2.
