Kyry Rose scored her second hat trick of the season as the undefeated Centennial Colts dominated the shorthanded Fleming Phoenix 9-0 in OCAA wonen’s soccer action last Wednesday night.

The rookie filled in at the forward spot for scoring leader Kai Douglas and did not miss a beat, opening up the scoring in the fourth minute with a well-placed shot from the top of the box.

She found the back of the net again early in the second half, and capped off her three-goal night with one more in the 64th minute.

“It just keeps us going … we have a six-game winning streak, and we want to keep that going,” said Rose. on her big night in an even bigger win. “Going into the playoffs, it’s really important to keep on winning and keep our momentum up.”

Several other players made big contributions for the Colts (6-0-2) as well. Soledad Vasquez had two goals and two assists, and assist leader Emily Cullen added a goal and an assist, bringing her total to eight on the season.

Fleming (1-7-0) keeper Eve Spinks made eight saves, but otherwise the defence crumpled under Centennial’s continuous onslaught, facing 17 shots on net throughout the game.

The Phoenix, who had to play with 10 players all game long, had their best chance midway through the second half when a ball was crossed into the 18-yard box from the left wing, but Colts keeper Olivia Gardiner caught it in the air and put a stop to the threat.

Outside of that play, Fleming was completely shut down, as they did not record a single shot on net.

Gardiner had a fairly uneventful night for the Colts, but with the season nearing an end and the playoffs coming soon, she is due to see a lot more action in her half of the pitch.

“We’re really excited, we’re working hard in practice, just keep working on the things we need to work on,” said the rookie goalkeeper on the upcoming challenge of the post-season. “We’re ready.”
