Jon Burnside, who was endorsed earlier in the campaign by mayor-elect John Tory, beat out incumbent John Parker by more than 3,000 votes. He ended up garnering over 42 per cent of the ballots cast, with a total of 9,415 to Parker’s 6,167.

Bussin falls short in Beaches-East York

For the 107,000 residents of Beaches-East York, it’s going to be another four years with Mary-Margaret McMahon in the councillor’s chair. McMahon polled 15,762 votes. The runner-up was Sandra Bussin with 4,552 votes. “I knew this would be difficult,” Bussin said. “It was really nice to go talk to people, and see what they were thinking. I also made life-long friends thanks to this campaign.”

Papadakis comeback bid fizzles amid tide for Fragedakis

Incumbent Toronto-Danforth councillor Mary Fragedakis left two rivals with especially high hopes in the dust tonight as she gathered more than 60 per cent of the vote in a six-candidate field. Community activist Dave Andre had run a high-profile campaign, and former East York councillor John Papadakis had hoped for a comeback after serving one term on what was then borough council 20 years ago. Andre came in a poor second, with 25 per cent of the vote. Papadakis came in third, with just under 10 per cent.
