Ryerson student Hanny Sierra thought all she needed to worry about in her third year graphic communications program was grades. “Given that so much attention has been brought to the issue, it is definitely concerning to think that safety is just one more thing Ryerson students have to worry about,” Sierra said.

New Yorker says Toronto’s safe streets not result of police presence

Kaitlin Heller thinks Toronto streets are very safe, but not necessarily the result of an increased police presence. “I used to live in Harlem, New York, and there were shootings on my doorstep,” Kaitlin Heller said while sitting on a bench at Yonge-Dundas Square. “Toronto feels much safer.”

Blair says Toronto safer

The Toronto police chief said the streets of the city were safer this summer because his officers worked compulsory overtime hours. In late July this year, Toronto Police of Chief Bill Blair announced the launch of the Toronto Police Service’s Summer Safety Initiative (SSI), which resulted in the equivalent of 329 additional full-time officers monitoring the city between July 26 and Sept. 9.

3 men in police custody following Project R-Bar arrests

Three Toronto men have been charged with multiple drug offences following an investigation by officers in 55 Division. The investigation, dubbed Project R-Bar, was in conjunction with the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police annual Lock it or Lose it campaign; a program encouraging drivers to become more proactive in their fight against theft from vehicles.
